Clean Face - Clear, Soft Skin

As promised, here is my recipe for facial cleanser.  I used to use cleanser & scrub w/ salicylic acid to keep my face from breaking out.  It would also dry my skin.  This recipe has prevented the breakouts without the dryness.

All of the ingredients are shelf stable (you don't have to keep it in the fridge to keep it from growing funk).
Honey is antiseptic, anti-fungal, antibacterial, and locks in moisture!

3 T honey
1/2 c vegetable glycerine
2 T liquid castile soap

(I like to use Dr. Bronner's peppermint for tingle - use Unscented Baby Mild for sensitive skin)

options:
1/2 t jojoba oil - it is FINE without it, but nice if you have dry skin.
essential oil of your choice (I like lemon - lavender would be a great choice, too)

I keep a small jar of cinnamon sugar in the shower and sprinkle a bit in my hand and then mix it with the cleanser for a gentle scrub (the cinnamon keeps the sugar from clumping in the container).

If you like to use an astringent, Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel is a nice natural choice.
If I am not wearing make-up, I will just use this to wash my face in the evening.

In the evening (or if you don't plan to wear make-up it is great for daytime, too) I moisturize with grape seed oil - (plain or with a little essential oil).

As a side note... coconut oil is fantastic for LOTS of things - NOT FOR YOUR FACE.  It clogs pores like NOTHING I have ever seen.

That's the scoop!  Enjoy!

Sounds like an awesome recipe! Thanks! I have tried coconut oil on my face several times.........breakout every time. I was glad to hear you say it is not good on the face because most websites say it is good.
Where do you purchase your ingredients? Just want to mention (I am sure you know) also that all honey is not created equal......I bought the raw, local honey from Costco and am hoping it still has the good stuff inside that it is supposed to. :)

I order most of my ingredients from amazon (I'm a sucker for the convenience and the low prices). If it's not inexpensive and easy I'm less likely to follow through with it. I did know about the honey, but I didn't know that they had raw local honey at Costco! I'll have to look for that! I hope you'll try the grapeseed oil - I think you'll be amazed by how soft your skin is in the morning.
