Alignment and natural movement are for EVERY BODY.
Many of the aches and pains that we experience (not caused by trauma) are a result of a lifetime of habits: the way we stand, the way we sit, the way we walk, the way we hold the phone, the way we drive our car.
Over a lifetime, these simple ways of being in our misaligned bodies are translated into muscle imbalances,
stress risers, poor circulation,
and neuropathy (dysfunction of peripheral nerves).
THIS IS ALL TRUE EVEN
(AND MAYBE ESPECIALLY)
IF YOU EXERCISE REGULARLY
(Watch this cool 6 minute whiteboard animation to learn more.)
These tensions and imbalances present themselves as headaches, chronic tension in the neck and shoulders, low back pain, plantar fasciitis, and bunions just to name a few. Any of that sound at all familiar?
Improving your alignment is as simple (and as difficult) as creating new habits for
standing, sitting, walking, talking on the phone and driving your car.
These small shifts will help to release tension and muscular imbalances, improve circulation and nerve health. These small shifts can relieve some of the pain and discomforts of pregnancy.
Here comes what I like to call the
"gift with purchase"
portion of Restorative Exercise™ -
PELVIC FLOOR HEALTH.
Your pelvic floor is pretty important on a day to day basis (baby in your body or not).
It holds up your organs and controls your urine and bowel movements.
The Pelvic floor is ground zero for one of the
most amazing natural functions ever - the birth of your baby!
Why do I call pelvic floor health "gift with purchase?" As you are aligning your body to improve your movement habits and doing corrective exercise to relieve the everyday tensions that cause your aches and pains, your pelvic floor is getting a workout and receiving the benefits of your labor (pun intended) without you having to think about it. That's right - NO KEGELS! Read a THIS great interview w/ Katy Bowman to learn more.
What's more - Restorative Exercise™ can actually work to change the shape of the obstetrical conjugate
(the space in the pelvis for the baby to pass through).
Ideally one has a nice round open space for the baby's head to pass through (as seen in the "gynecoid" pelvis on the far left). Pregnancy hormones and positioning during labor & delivery aid in the movement of these tissues and bones.
Restorative Exercise™ can give you an advantage by helping to reposition this structure through natural movement and alignment before the delivery process begins.
So, is Restorative Exercise™ just for pregnant women? Nope. It's for EVERY BODY!
This is simply a highlight of how it can make a beautiful natural process just a little more comfortable.
I am in the process of developing a Prenatal Alignment Seminar that will be offered in the fall of 2014.
If you are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant you can start classes NOW.
The exercises and discussions taking place in group classes are safe and appropriate for YOU!
I would be pleased to discuss how alignment can help you
achieve the goals you have for your pregnancy, labor and delivery.
